Energy poverty and health

realization time: 10.2019-10.2020

The aim of the project is to assess the relationship between energy poverty and health. We will use a field study in Tychy and Ruda Śląska. Our project is one of the first studies in Poland that combines data on health and energy use in households.   Energy poverty may be associated with health problems, in particular lung diseases. It has been confirmed by research in the United Kingdom and Spain. Our project aims to verify the conclusions from the previous analysis in a field study. Therefore, we have developed an innovative research tool that allows assessing the relationship between energy poverty and health, taking into account:

  • household demographic characteristics,
  • indicators of health and access to medical services,
  • heat sources and energy efficiency of the building,
  • economic situation, including income and expenses for energy and medical services.

The project is funded by a grant from the European Climate Foundation.
