CARE: Carbon-neutral and Affordable Retrofits for Everyone in Need

realization time: 07.2023 – 06.2024

The project aims to develop sequences for renovating municipal buildings in Warsaw, balancing environmental, carbon-neutral and social goals.

In the project, we will:

  • organise knowledge about municipal buildings based on administrative data.
  • develop criteria for just retrofitting municipal buildings.
  • create an analytical tool for strategic documents and monitoring of urban investments.

The project will include organising and conducting workshops with city officers and developing a database of municipal buildings in the city, utilising data from various public sector resources.

On 28-29 November 2024, a conference entitled 'Warsaw in the light of scientific research' was held, organised by the University of Warsaw, the Warsaw City Hall and the Statistical Office in Warsaw.

The CARE project implemented together with the City of Warsaw ends in July. The IBS team developed a tool for designing scenarios for modernizing municipal buildings and balancing social and environmental goals.
Institute for Structural Research at the 2024 European Housing Forum
The 2024 Housing Forum, held on April 16th and 17th, was a collaborative effort between Habitat for Humanity Poland, Europe Housing Forum, and Habitat for Humanity International, focusing on "Decent and Affordable Housing Without Borders".
About energy poverty during the Clean Air Forum
On 22nd February 2024, Jan Frankowski took part in a debate during the Clean Air Forum at the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw.
International Annual Conference on Energy Poverty (EPAH) in Warsaw
On 19-20 September 2023, the International Conference on Energy Poverty took place at the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. Jakub Sokołowski, Jan Frankowski, Joanna Mazurkiewicz, and Aleksandra Prusak represented IBS at the Conference.
CARE Project kick-off meeting.
Out of over 30 applications, six cities were awarded grants by the ICA Fund: Bogota, Dar es Salaam, Los Angeles, Quezon City, Vancouver, and Warsaw, representing the only European city to receive the grant.
