April 23 2024
The 2024 Housing Forum, held on April 16th and 17th, was a collaborative effort between Habitat for Humanity Poland, Europe Housing Forum, and Habitat for Humanity International, focusing on "Decent and Affordable Housing Without Borders".

Partnering organizations of the event included UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the International Organization for Migration. The forum convened experts from various sectors to explore innovative solutions for sustainable urban development and improving housing accessibility for vulnerable groups.

Joanna Mazurkiewicz from the Institute for Structural Research (IBS) moderated a session featuring Justyna Glusman (Renovation Wave Association), Rutger Broer (Buildings Performance Institute Europe, BPIE), and Krzysztof Mrozek (CEE Bankwatch Network). Discussions revolved around the transformative challenges of implementing key EU initiatives: the energy performance of buildings directive and the Social Climate Fund.

Justyna Glusman emphasized the importance of collaboration among policymakers to address the challenges related to energy poverty. Rutger Broer highlighted the benefits of minimum energy standards in reducing energy poverty risks and improving quality of life. Krzysztof Mrozek outlined the principles of the Social Climate Fund and its financing mechanisms supporting household energy transition. The discussion also underscored the significance of accurate information dissemination regarding the EPBD directive’s implementation and climate neutrality goals. This dialogue emphasized the need for evidence-based policymaking to mitigate inequalities and foster social acceptance of energy and climate policy transformations.
