In the first part of the debate we will present the results of the latest research on economic inequality in Poland. We will focus on the differences in trends in wage dispersion, income inequality and wealth inequality in Poland compared to the situation in other European countries. We will also discuss about: the inequality of income opportunities, the income share accrued to the top-earning 1% of Poles, minimum wage and gender pay gap. Speakers will include: Michał Brzeziński (WNE UW, IBS), Paweł Bukowski (CEP LSE), Karolina Goraus-Tańska (WNE UW), Jakub Sawulski (IBS, UEP).

During the second day we present the newly available results of in-depth studies on the impact of social benefits on labour supply in Poland and the introduction of the 500+ Programme on women’ participation in the labour market and the determinants of decisions to work, including childcare costs. The results will be presented by: Iga Magda (IBS and SGH), Michał Myck (CenEA) and Matteo Morgandi (World Bank).
In the second part of the seminar we will discuss the short and long term costs and benefits of returning to the labour market after giving birth.
