IBS workshop about heterogeneous labour market modelling

On November 16, the Institute for Structural Research orgrnized a workshop entitled “New developments in labour markets”. The workshop was divided into two parts: one dedicated to advances in heterogeneous labour market modelling and the other to new empirical findings.   In the first session Leo Kaas from the University of Konstanz showed his work in progress on a model of firm dynamics with frictional product and labour markets. Next, Marek Antosiewicz (IBS) and Jacek Suda (NBP) presented a heterogeneous firm model of on-the-job search with financial frictions. The model is the result of research conducted under National Science Foundation grant entitled “Development of macroeconomic modelling methods: Incorporating ex-post heterogeneity to DSGE models”.   During the empirical part of the workshop Marcel Jansen from the Autonomous University of Madrid presented recent findings from Spain concerning job losses resulting from lack of credit. His work was recently awarded the Jaime Fernandez de Araoz Prize on Corporate FinanceJoanna Tyrowicz (UW and NBP) presented her paper on labour reallocation and demographics, and Małgorzata Skibińska (NBP and SGH) showed a model explaining the factors driving the labour wedge in Europe
