The Eighteenth World Congress of the International Economic Association (IEA) was held in Santa Fe, Mexico City between 19th and 23th of June 2017. The theme of the congress was ‘Globalization, Growth and Sustainability’. Around 400 papers across the spectrum of economics were presented in multiple invited and contributed sessions. Key-note lectures included: Joseph Stiglitz (Columbia University) talked on inequality, Dani Rodrik (Harvard University) talked on economics rules, the role of models and data in economics, and Eliana La Ferrara (Bocconi University) talked on media and behavioural change. Among the invited sessions, the session on minimum wages and compliance in developing countries, with Ravi Kanbur (Cornell University), Haroon Bhorat (University of Cape Town), Tim Gindling (University of Maryland), Vidhya Soundararajan (Indian Institute of Management Bangalore) and Uma Rani (ILO), stood out.
