Alongside AAG and IGU, the RGS-IBG Annual International Conference is one of the major events in geography. The multi-day conference offers an opportunity to discuss specialised topics and exchange experiences with researchers and practitioners working on similar but narrow issues.
At the Energy Inequalities and Home Retrofit session, organised by the University of Edinburgh,Jan Frankowski presented a paper idea (Behind the dashboard: Data, prioritisation and justice in targeting place-based retrofit), drawing on results from the CARE, ENBLOC and LOCATEE projects, and discussing approaches to geographically targeting building retrofits across various European cities.

The two-part session brought together more than 30 researchers and practitioners working on energy retrofit at the neighbourhood level. Discussions covered both successful and less successful investments in heat pumps and district heating networks, the added value of retrofit initiatives, and the challenges of scaling them up. Each speaker also hosted a World Café session, giving participants an opportunity to share their feedback and discuss the presentations directly with the speakers.
