In June, Zuzanna Kowalik and Piotr Lewandowski took part in an event organized by the Association of Business Service Leaders (ABSL). This

ABSL is an organization that brings together the largest companies that own business service centers in Poland. The event took place in Krakow, where business service centers play an extremely important role in employment.

Piotr Lewandowski and Katarzyna Tasarek-Skrok of Colliers gave an inspirational speech on hybrid work. Although they conduct their research separately, both are involved in this topic. During the speech, they summarized the results of their research.

Presentation at ABSL Summit: ‘Adapting to hybrid. The reality check in transforming work strategies’ by Katarzyna Tasarek-Skrok (Colliers), Piotr Lewandowski (IBS)

The transition to hybrid work, initially unforeseen like remote work before 2019, has become a new norm driven by technological advancements and the COVID-19 pandemic. In Poland, 33% of companies have adopted hybrid or remote work, with a higher adoption rate among ABSL members at 57%. However, 41% of companies have not implemented or plan to implement such practices.

A survey shows varied willingness among employees to sacrifice earnings for the option to work from home, averaging around 6%, with gender differences evident—women willing to sacrifice more than men.Managers perceive hybrid work as costly due to concerns over productivity and the additional effort required for managing remote teams. They believe remote work is less productive and carries a higher managerial burden.

Interest in remote work is highest among non-routine analytical occupations (e.g., IT and analysts) and lowest among interpersonal occupations (e.g., managers, coaches). Firms with high-quality talent management practices face fewer costs associated with remote work, particularly for non-routine analytical jobs.

At the Institute for Structural Research, we conducted a study of employees in business service centers , and a study on the willingness to pay for work from home.
