Polish labour market segmentation

May 26 2015
Taking measures to tackle excessive use of temporary and civil law contracts in Poland is one of country specific recommendations given by the European Commission to Poland this year.

Segmentation of Polish labour market was a topic of a seminar organized by European Commission Representation in Poland and IBS on May 21 in Warsaw. Loris Di Pietrantonio, Deputy Head of Unit European Employment Strategy at the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion, Jan Rutkowski, Lead Economist at the World Bank office in Warsaw, and Piotr Lewandowski, President of IBS, argued for the need to limit segmentation and rebalance flexibility and security on the Polish labour market. The idea of introducing the so called single contract was widely discussed and it gained support from the Ministry of Labour, represented by Jacek Męcina, Secretary of State, as well as employers’ and trade unions representatives.
