International Energy Workshop (IEW)<\/a> is one of the oldest and most prestigious meetings on the topics related to energy in the world. The meetings were initiated by Alan Manne from University of Stanford in 1981. Since then, every year this relatively small workshop gathers the group of the most influential energy economists to discuss the frontier research results in that field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IEW 36th Edition<\/a>  was hosted by the University of Maryland and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory on July 12-14, 2017. The presentations included studies on the challenges for the energy sector due to climate change, the potential growth of biomass technology and the electrification of buildings and transportation in US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jan Witajewski-Baltvilks<\/strong> from the Institute for Structural Research (IBS) presented his article, coauthored with Carolyn Fischer from Resources for the Future. The topic of the presentation was \u201cGreen Innovation and Economic Growth in a North-South Model\u201d. The article indicates that the unilateral R&D policy promoting green technologies in one region may induce a switch of researchers from dirty to clean technologies also in other regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
