{"id":6944,"date":"2017-03-15T04:47:25","date_gmt":"2017-03-15T03:47:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/news\/poland-risks-getting-old-before-getting-rich-2\/"},"modified":"2022-11-30T10:24:13","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T09:24:13","slug":"poland-risks-getting-old-before-getting-rich-2","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/en\/news\/poland-risks-getting-old-before-getting-rich-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland risks getting old before getting rich"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The current state of knowledge about the effects of rapid population ageing was presented during a conference organised by our Institute (IBS) and the European Commission Representation in Poland. \u201c<em>Population ageing is a challenge for the labour market, which Poland has to face<\/em>\u201d \u2013 said the president of IBS Piotr Lewandowski. A large number of conference participants \u2013 above 140 \u2013 have confirmed that a substantial discussion of this problem is needed in Poland. &nbsp; The latest analyses were collected in <a href=\"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/en\/publications\/population-ageing-labour-market-and-public-finance-in-poland\/\">the publication &#8220;Population ageing, labour market and public finance in Poland&#8221;<\/a> created for the conference. The group of authors consists of experts from our Institute (IBS): Piotr Lewandowski, Iga Magda (PhD), Aneta Kie\u0142czewska, and from the top academic institutions in Poland: professor Piotr B\u0142\u0119dowski, Agnieszka Ch\u0142o\u0144-Domi\u0144czak (PhD), Agnieszka Fihel (PhD), professor Irena E. Kotowska, Magda Malec, professor Marek Ok\u00f3lski and Joanna Tyrowicz (PhD). They discuss the challenges resulting from population ageing in Poland, such as: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>decrease in the labour supply,<\/li>\n<li>necessary changes in pension system,<\/li>\n<li>changes in family policy,<\/li>\n<li>immigration policy and<\/li>\n<li>a long-term care system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Selected results from the publication were presented by: <strong>Agnieszka Ch\u0142o\u0144-Domi\u0144czak<\/strong> (Warsaw School of Economics &#8211; SGH), <strong>Piotr Lewandowski<\/strong> (Institute for Structural Research &#8211; IBS) and <strong>Joanna Tyrowicz<\/strong> (University of Warsaw &#8211; UW, National Bank of Poland &#8211; NBP). The context for the scientific analyses was provided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/2017-european-semester-country-report-poland-en.pdf\">&#8220;Country Report &#8211; Poland 2017&#8221;<\/a>, the document of the European Commission, presented by <strong>Wallis Goelen<\/strong> (DG EMPL) and <strong>Wojciech Paczy\u0144ski<\/strong> (DG ECFIN). During the panel discussions, almost 20 experts from the national and European public administration, science, employers\u2019 associations and trade unions focused on the consequences of population ageing on the labour market and on public finances. &nbsp; The summary of the conference is available on our website (<a href=\"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/en\/events\/population-ageing-labour-market-and-public-finance-in-poland\/\">link<\/a>).
