People \u2014 Economy&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;Investment&#8221;<\/strong>.&nbsp;The goal of the meeting was to discuss the possible measures that mitigate the negative effects of the transformation in the region and the measures that create new development opportunities. The presentations of the results of the research conducted in the Institute for Structural Research and The University of Edinburgh served as a starting point for the discussion.&nbsp;<strong>Aleksander Szpor, Daniel Kiewra<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Jan Witajewski-Baltvilks<\/strong>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<strong>IBS<\/strong>&nbsp;presented the economic, social, and technological aspects of the development scenario for the region in the short- and long-term perspectives.&nbsp;<strong>Adam Irvine<\/strong>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation&nbsp;presented activities connected with the &#8216;smart transformation&#8217; from the international point of view. &nbsp; More results:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/app\/uploads\/2018\/10\/4.-Irvine-Smart-Transitions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Smart transitions<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; presentation by Adam Irvine (ECCI)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/app\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IBS_Research_Report_03_2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prospects of green growth in coal-dependent regions of Poland. Macroeconomic analysis of \u015al\u0105skie Voivodeship and Konin Subregion<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; report by Jan Witajewski-Baltvilks and Jakub Sawulski<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>Smart specialisation \u2013 workshops organised by EU-CONSULT and&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>the Marshall\u2019s Office of the Wielkopolskie Voivodship<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting consisted of three blocks of workshops. The EU-CONSULT company,&nbsp;at the request of the Marshall\u2019s Office of the Wielkopolskie Voivodship, conducted a workshop block about the smart specialisations of the Konin subregion, carried out parallely in two groups, one consisting of representatives of local authorities and the other one of science, business, and NGO representatives. At the beginning of the meeting,&nbsp;<strong>Elizabeth Duda<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Micha\u0142 Ptaszy\u0144ski<\/strong>&nbsp;of the Marshall\u2019s Office of the Wielkopolskie Voivodship presented the main issues connected with the smart specialisation and the new technologies serving its development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u2018Smart transformation&#8217; &#8211; toolkit<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vladimir Cvijanovi\u0107<\/strong>&nbsp;(EFIS &#8211; European Future Innovation System Centre) lead the second workshop block devoted to smart transformation. Among other things, he showed the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.s3platform.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Online S3 Platform<\/a>&#8221; which can be used to create, monitor, and update the smart specialisation strategy on the national and regional levels (\u2192 see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/app\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Workshop-2.-Cvijanovi%C4%87-Supporting-smart-transitions-indicators-and-toolkit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">presentation<\/a>&nbsp;in English).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The optimum scenario for the transformation of Eastern Wielkopolska region \u2013 IBS discussion<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>During the last workshop block,\u00a0<strong>Aleksander Szpor<\/strong>\u00a0of the IBS moderated a discussion about the optimum transformation scenario for Eastern Wielkopolska region. Conclusions from the workshops, in the form of an action plan (recommendations) will be published as part of the IBS report prepared as part of the project \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ibs.org.pl\/en\/research\/transformation-of-the-koninskie-lignite-subregion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transformation in the Konin
