The economic importance of the cultural sector - an introduction to the analysis of the problem

The report presents the results of the study, which aim was to analyze the economic importance of the cultural and creative industries in Poland. Based on a review of literature and the experience of other countries, an operational definition of cultural and creative industries has been developed, i.e. directory or industries that they are composed from has been specified . Then  their economic significance has been estimated - the share of gross domestic product and employment - in Poland in 2008. Due to data availability at the time of the study it was the most recent period, which could reasonably be analyzed. We also calculated the contribution of individual industries to the added value and employment in the cultural and creative industries, and their importance at the level of provinces has been also estimated.
