IBS realizes an internal (financed with its own means) program of structural modeling. The main area of activity is the structural models construction - strongly based on the economic theory - serving the simulation of the changes in economic policy results, changes in the economy and long term forecasting. Within the framework of the program there are series of studies carried out supporting the process of the models construction, including empirical analyses of the economy, theoretical research in the area of the economic processes modeling, research in the field of numerical methods and development of the tools serving the creation of macroeconomic general equilibrium models.
IBS develops the Forma toolbox - a set of tools for building, analyzing and estimating large scale dynamic general equilibrium models and computable general equilibrium models. It is the result of research carried by Pawel Kowal. The most important part of the Forma toolbox is a language allowing to specify nonlinear rational expectations models including models with heterogeneous agents, models with overlapping generations structure, models without steady states, or analyzing optimal policy. The Forma language is a stand alone library, but in the current version all supporting routines require Matlab.
