Conference on jobs and development took place on December 3-4 in New Delhi with a focus on labour regulations, informality, demography and job creation in South Asia.

International Conference on Jobs for Development: Creating Jobs in South Asia was hosted in New Delhi by Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), a regional partner of the World Bank’s Network on Jobs and Development (NJD) programme.   The conference covered such issues as labour regulations, their implications and enforcement, informality, demography, urbanization, fragile situations, and particular attention was paid to job creation in South Asia. A set of country-level case studies was presented along papers and keynote speaches.   Keynote speakers included Arvind Subramanian (Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India), Robin Burgess (International Growth Centre, LSE), Kunal Sen (University of Manchester), Albert Park (HKUST IEMS), Adrian Wood (Oxford Department of International Development), and speakers included Rana Hasan (Asian Development Bank), Radhicka Kapoor (ICRIER), Javier Sanchez-Reaza (World Bank), and others.   Piotr Lewandowski (IBS) presented a forthcoming IBS Working Paper “Minimum wage violation in Central Eastern European Countries” (with Karolina Goraus).
