5th Health Econometric Workshop (HEW)

Maciej Lis participated in 5th Health Econometric Workshop that took place in Bari from July 22 to July 24.
During the workshop a wide area of topics were discussed such as: efficiency and spatial effects of hospitals, drug therapies, efficiency of health systems, regulation of health sector, health inequalities and the recent models of technological progress in health. The worldwide known scholars contributed with the presentation, among others: William Greene (NYU Stern School Of Business), Andrew Jones (University Of York), Ellen R. Meara (The Dartmouth Institute), John Mullahy (University Of Wisconsin), Luigi Siciliani (University Of York) and Jonathan S. Skinner (The Dartmouth Institute).   Maciej Lis (IBS) gave a presentation on the age and time-to-death dynamics of health care expenditures in OECD countries (publication). He presented the evidence,  that the technological progress in health care concentrated on curing patients in severe health states with high mortality risk.   A selection of the papers presented at the Workshop will be published in a special issue of Health Economics.   More info about workshop: link.
